You seem to be drawn to the macabre and other fiendish things. Tell me more about that?

I'm a horror fanatic since I was a child and grew up watching those black and white Dracula old movies, so that's why I have this thing about the macabre, blood, gore and vampires. For some people blood might be offensive, for me it's just normal. There is so much more offensive issues like slavery and child abuse...

I really like your fetish stuff and the way you challenge perceptions of what is acceptable or how a 'woman' should look or even behave. Is that a reaction to how mainstream society depicts women or some other reason?

Some women in the fetish area tend to have porn photos ... I like porn, don't get me wrong, but some of my photos are artistic nude, people that know my photos know what I'm talking about... I aprove nude for art, not for porn. A woman can be very sexy shooting fetish erotic photos, it just leaves more to your imagination... beeing a pinup model is about all that, acting sexy and classy without spreading your legs.

Tell me more about some of the fetish modeling work you have done?

I have been modelling for 4 years now. It all started when a friend, marcoprofanArte, started taking photos of me. The photos turned out pretty good and we started sending them to websites. I got accepted in some websites, refused in others because I wasn't porn enough (laughs). I have shot with Portuguese, American and UK photographers. Tell me the story behind your tattoos?

When I turned 18, I made my first tattoo and I never stopped since. Being from Portugal is not like being from the United States. Portugal is a closed minded country and people judge you by your appearance. There aren't many women in Portugal with massive tattoos like me. Fortunatly, the scene is growing and there are alot of good tattoo artists in Portugal. I make all my tattoos in Atomic Tattoo Studio in Lisbon, Portugal. I've known Francisco for many years and we are good friends. He's very talented and one of the best in Portugal.

The meaning of my tattoos: well the tribal colored suns on each arm, one is red because it symbolizes fire, the other is blue because it symbolizes water. These are some Earth - elements we cannot live without. My angel wings are really because I'm an aries and in Chinese culture I'm a horse of fire which is symbolized by an angel. My leopard stars on my feet are just because I love start and leopard print and I've never seen any tattoo like the one on my feet. I tend to be original when it comes to tattoos. My half sleeve on my left arm is inspired on a full sleeve that Tim Kern (from Last Rites Tattoos, works with Paul Booth) made some years ago. The alien has a gas mask because I love gas masks... there's something twisted about them...

I first went under the gun in 1999, I was into piercings before that but i knew i really wanted to get a tattoo of stars on my body. So I got a row of 9 black and red stars on my right side. 9 is my favourite number, black and red are two of my favourite colours and my mothers last name is Sky.

I've never been inspired by other tattooed people or anything like that, to me tattoos are a very personal thing, it's a memory of a part of my life...kind of like a diary...each piece I get done i draw myself and I take my time between tattoos, I never rush into them... although I have my next three planned out already ;)

Describe your tattoos and what they mean to you?

Hmmm where do we start, well on my left arm there's and anatomy heart, all stitched up with a sewing needle through it, it means "no matter how many times you rip it apart, I will always stitch it right back up. then there's the 'self portrait' oh yes, Mz Ann Thropik's monster girl, squeezing your heart, and I just love roses, couldn't leave them out.

There's also a big moth, it represents ghosts ... moths, especially the big black ones have a tendancy to follow me around where ever I go...and there's a little trident, which is the signature I use on my art.

My right arm holds the tangled web of love! With a spade in the middle "A spade is a spade, I am who I am, take it or leave it" A crazy woman on a bus once came up to me and started pointing at it whilst raving "Black Death!!! Center Stage!!!" It was one of the creepiest things I've ever experienced.

There's also a set of bleeding cherries, to represent my late grandfathers cherry trees. And a sacred heart with the word truth written in it... speaks for itself. On my back there is a heart with cross bones through it and the word 'Thropik' under it, Mz Ann Thropik is my love till death, simple as that ;)

Some sites function as an introduction to a tattoo artist or studio, while there are some that gleam the web for pictures and stories surrounding tattoo culture. Other sites are merely portals hoping to make a quick buck off tattoo flash. However in my search, I happened to stumble across a tattoo blog that dares to offer the chronicle of two brothers learning to tattoo themselves. This should be good.

Ink Trails is a journal of two brothers, Jason and David who set out to learn how to tattoo while documenting the entire process. The blog starts out with the simple premise that one need not have a desire to tattoo professionally to work within the medium. According to comments posted on the site, a traditional tattoo apprenticeship can be very difficult to find, and can require the student to spend years working as a lackey before ever laying the needle to skin. Tattoo artists tend to be very territorial, as teaching an eager student their hard earned skills can create instant competition and are a liability to their main source of income. There is also those that see tattooing as a trade and therefore expect those interested in learning to be wholly committed to learning the craft as tradition has prescribed. If TLCs Miami Ink is any indication, the job of an apprentice can consist of little more than moping floors and answering phones for years before they are entrusted with the knowledge of the trade.

While the first few posts on the site document the trials of finding out what supplies they will need and how to operate the equipment, its the posts of their work that provide the most interesting reads. Filled with stories, pictures, and even video clips of each tattoo, Jason (the main author) documents the mistakes made and lessons learned with earnest voice and a remarkable clarity. One of their first tattoos on a friend even shows a video clip of the exact moment when David fudges a line While Im glad it wasnt me, its this kind of unflinching honesty that makes the site stand out from so many other sites trying to capitalize on the upsurge in popularity.

Surprisingly, in a little over three months, the work featured on the site has improved dramatically. Many of the new completed pieces actually have a rough, yet stylized traditional quality to them.
